Yemen's Saudi-backed government announces a major military operation against Iran-backed Houthis to seize territory under their control.
Oct 05, New Delhi(Rights Media): The leader of Yemen's Saudi-backed government on Sunday announced the beginning of a major military operation against the Iran-backed Houthis, aimed at seizing territory under their control.
Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi said in a televised address that the internationally recognised government's forces would extend the authority of the state and its institutions over the entire national territory. Al-Alimi added that all state institutions would be placed on full alert until the mission was completed and victory was achieved.
Meanwhile, the Houthis said they had launched ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Aramco sites in Riyadh and the Khurais area of Saudi Arabia. They claimed the attacks caused major fires and were carried out in response to what they said were 50 Saudi-led air and missile strikes on Yemen in the past 12 hours.
The Saudi-led Coalition, meanwhile, reaffirmed its operational support for the Yemeni government amid continued Houthi attacks in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea.
In a statement, the Official Spokesperson of the Coalition, Major General Turki Al-Malki, said the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition continues to provide full operational support to the Yemeni Armed Forces, while reaffirming its position alongside the Yemeni government and people.
