RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee begins its 3-day meeting on October 5, with expectations of the first repo rate hike since 2023 after four consecutive meetings of no change.

October 5, New Delhi(Rights Media): The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee begins its 3-day meeting on October 5 amid growing expectations of the first interest rate hike since 2023.

At its August policy meeting, the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee kept the benchmark repo rate unchanged at 5.25% and retained its ‘neutral’ stance, opting to wait for greater clarity on the inflation outlook amid uncertainties over the southwest monsoon, El Nino, geopolitical tensions and global trade policies.

The Central Bank also kept the Standing Deposit Facility rate unchanged at 5%, while retaining the Marginal Standing Facility rate and the bank rate at 5.5%.

The RBI has kept the repo rate unchanged for 4 consecutive policy meetings after cutting rates by a cumulative 125 basis points in 2025.
